Vidyasagar Setu to remain fully closed for 16 hours on June 7 for repair work
Vidyasagar Setu will remain fully closed to all vehicular traffic from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm on June 7, 2026, to facilitate repair and rehabilitation work, including the replacement of stay cables, holding-down cables and bearings. The traffic restriction has been ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, following a request from the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners Authority undertaking the work on the bridge.
According to the notification, movement of all types of vehicles will be prohibited on Vidyasagar Setu and its connecting ramps during the closure period. Westbound vehicles approaching the bridge via AJC Bose Road will be diverted from Turf View towards Hastings Crossing and directed through St. Georges Gate Road, Strand Road and Howrah Bridge, or towards K.P. Road. Vehicles approaching from K.P. Road towards Vidyasagar Setu will also be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate through Hastings Crossing and Strand Road to Howrah Bridge.
Eastbound vehicles travelling along CGR Road from the Khidderpore side and intending to use Vidyasagar Setu will be diverted at Hastings Crossing towards St. Georges Gate Road, Strand Road and Howrah Bridge. Vehicles attempting to access the bridge through the ramp at Y-Point near Ghora Pass will be redirected towards 11 Furlong Gate and routed through K.P. Road and Red Road for access to Howrah Bridge. Traffic authorities have also stated that additional diversions through arterial roads may be implemented as required during the closure period.
